To LONDON

Wednesday, Sept 22nd:

Those joining the UK Christian Heritage Add-On, after fare-welling our fellow travellers, transfer to the airport for our flight to London. Fish and chips, cup of tea, God Save the Queen! On arrival in our London hotel, there is a city sightseeing tour in a double-decker bus.[B]

LONDON

Thursday, Sept 23rd:

One of the great churches of Christendom today - Westminster Abbey. This afternoon we pay a visit to nearby Canterbury, the home of world Anglicanism, and the shrine to St Thomas a'Beckett.[B]

LONDON - Day Trip to Salisbury, Stonehenge & Oxford

Friday, Sept 24th:

A day trip out of London today by bus - trains do not run where we wish to go. We begin by visiting a very favourite cathedral, Salisbury, immortalized in Constable's art, then drop in on mysterious, ancient Stonehenge. A village pub lunch follows, then an afternoon visit to the ancient University city of Oxford. Here we walk about the Colleges and visit the Martyrs Memorial to the English Protestants burned at the stake by Queen Mary Tudor. Home to London tonight.[B]

LONDON

Saturday, Sept 25th:

Another day in wonderful London. There will be visits this morning to Christopher Wren's masterpiece, St Paul's Cathedral and to Wesley's Chapel nearby - spiritual home for the Methodists. The Portobello Road antiques markets are on Saturday mornings.[B]

LONDON

Sunday, Sept 26th:

The Church bells call us today - St Clement's (oranges and lemons), St Andrew's by the Wardrobe, Wesley's Chapel, Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral?[B]

LONDON - Day Trip to York & Epworth

Monday Sept 27th:

Today we take Britain's signature train - the Flying Scotsman - to York where we pay a visit to historic York Minster before driving across to Epworth, the tiny Lincolnshire village which produced the towering Christian figures of the eighteenth century, John and Charles Wesley. We are back in London tonight.[B]

LONDON

Tuesday Sept 28th:

“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life,” spake the immortal Samuel Johnson. The shops or a matinee? Another Farewell Dinner tonight.[B][D]

Wednesday Sept 29th:

The tour ends after breakfast. There is a transfer to Heathrow for those departing today.[B]
